The Workhorse of American Fencing

Chain link has been the most-installed fence in America for a century — and there's a reason. It's affordable, it's strong, it goes up fast, and it lasts for decades with almost no maintenance. The best value-per-foot fence on the market.

Most Affordable Option

Chain link is the lowest-cost-per-foot fence we install — by a wide margin. If you've got a lot of yard to cover or a tight budget, nothing else competes on price per linear foot.

Fast Installation

Chain link goes up faster than any other fence style. Most residential installs finish in a single day. Less labor, less disruption, less waiting to enjoy your enclosed yard.

Galvanized to Last

The steel mesh is hot-dip galvanized to resist rust for 15-25 years. Upgrade to black vinyl-coated and you tack on extra protection plus a far more attractive look. Either way, you're getting a fence that'll outlast a lot of what's around it.

Strong & Secure

The diamond mesh design distributes force across the entire fence. Pets can't push through, intruders can't easily climb it (especially with privacy slats or barbed top on commercial installs), and storms barely faze it.

Four Styles. One Tough Fence.

From classic galvanized backyards to commercial security perimeters — we install chain link at every height, gauge, and application across Indianapolis.

Galvanized Residential

The classic American chain link fence.

Standard 11-gauge galvanized mesh in heights from 3ft to 6ft. The original silver chain link look — affordable, durable, and the fastest fence we install. Most residential yards get done in a single day.

Best for: Backyard enclosures • Pet containment • Property borders • Budget-conscious installs

Most Popular

Black Vinyl-Coated

Chain link that practically disappears into the landscape.

Galvanized steel mesh coated in black PVC. From 10 feet away you can barely see it — the eye reads through it to whatever's behind. Doubles the rust protection of galvanized and adds a clean, premium look at a moderate upgrade cost.

Best for: Landscaped yards • HOA neighborhoods • Behind-the-shrub installs • Premium look on a chain link budget

Premium
Pet Specialty

Dog Runs & Kennels

Custom enclosures for dogs, cats, and outdoor pets.

Smaller mesh sizes (1¼" or 1") to keep small dogs in and stray animals out, combined with reinforced posts and gate hardware built for daily use. Available in any height up to 8ft — and we can do a roof if you need a fully enclosed kennel.

Best for: Outdoor dog runs • Multi-pet households • Boarding facilities • Keeping coyotes out

Heavy-Duty

Commercial & Security

Tall, thick, and built to mean business.

Heavier 9-gauge mesh, 6ft to 12ft heights, top rail and bottom tension wire, plus options like barbed wire, razor wire, and slatted privacy. The fence we install for warehouses, storage yards, fleet lots, schools, and ball fields.

Best for: Commercial perimeters • Storage facilities • School yards • Industrial security

GALVANIZED VS BLACK VINYL-COATED

The main decision on chain link isn't gauge or height — it's the finish. Here's how the two stack up so you can pick what works for your yard and your budget.

BEST VALUE

Galvanized (Standard)

The original chain link look. Hot-dip galvanized steel mesh in a clean silver finish. The most affordable fence we install, and a workhorse that handles 15–20 years of Indiana weather without complaint. Best budget-per-foot value on the market.

  • 15–20+ year lifespan

  • Lowest cost-per-linear-foot of any fence

  • Hot-dip galvanized for rust resistance

  • The classic chain link look

  • Most affordable enclosure option

PREMIUM UPGRADE

Black Vinyl-Coated

The chain link upgrade. PVC coating over galvanized mesh gives you double rust protection and a black finish that visually disappears into your landscape. Ages better, looks better, and most customers find the upgrade well worth the cost.

  • 20–25+ year lifespan

  • Practically disappears against trees and landscaping

  • Double rust protection (galvanized + PVC)

  • Doesn't show wear and tear as it ages

  • The smart upgrade if budget allows

CHAIN LINK FENCE FAQ

How long does a chain link fence last?

Galvanized chain link typically lasts 15–20+ years. Black vinyl-coated chain link runs 20–25+ years because the PVC coating doubles the rust protection. Both are heavily dependent on installation quality — we use thicker gauge posts and set them deep so the fence doesn't lean or sag over time.

What's the difference between galvanized and vinyl-coated?

Galvanized chain link is hot-dipped in zinc to prevent rust — the classic silver look. Black vinyl-coated chain link is galvanized first, then coated in black PVC, which gives you double rust protection and a premium look that blends into landscaping. Black vinyl runs about 30–50% more than galvanized.

Can I add privacy to a chain link fence?

Yes — privacy slats are vertical PVC inserts woven through the diamond mesh to fill the gaps. They come in various colors (green, brown, white, black, tan) and give you about 75–90% visual privacy at a fraction of the cost of a privacy fence. Great option if you want chain link's affordability with some screening.

What gauge should I get?

For residential, 11-gauge is standard and plenty strong for backyards, pets, and property borders. For commercial, security, or large dogs, we upgrade to 9-gauge (thicker steel). 11.5-gauge is an economy option but we generally don't recommend it — the small savings aren't worth the reduced lifespan.

Will chain link rust?

Galvanized chain link is rust-resistant — the zinc coating protects the steel for 15–20 years. Eventually, the galvanization wears down and surface rust can develop, especially at cut ends and on the bottom rail near the ground. Black vinyl-coated chain link gets an extra 5–10 years before any rust appears because of the PVC layer.

Do you install dog runs and kennels?

Yes — dog runs are one of our most common chain link installs. We use smaller mesh sizes (1¼" or 1" instead of the standard 2") to keep small dogs from squeezing through, reinforce the posts for daily wear, and use heavy-duty gate hardware. We can also do covered runs with a chain link or wire roof.

Do I need a permit for a chain link fence in Indianapolis?

Same rules as other fence types — depends on the city, height, and your HOA. Many Indianapolis-area cities allow chain link without a permit for backyards, but front yard installs, taller fences, and barbed-wire commercial installs usually require one. We'll handle the permit guidance during your estimate.

Can you match my neighbor's existing chain link fence?

In most cases, yes. Chain link is fairly standardized, so matching gauge, height, and color (galvanized or black vinyl) is straightforward. Bring us a photo or let us see it during the estimate and we'll match it as closely as possible.

How tall can chain link go?

For residential, we typically install 3ft, 4ft, 5ft, and 6ft heights. For commercial and security applications, we go up to 12ft and beyond, including options for barbed wire or razor wire on top. If you've got a specific height in mind, we can almost always make it work.

Is chain link really the cheapest fence option?

Yes — by a comfortable margin. Galvanized chain link is the most affordable fence per linear foot we install. If you've got a large yard to enclose, a long perimeter to secure, or a tight budget, nothing else in our lineup competes on price. That said, "cheap" doesn't mean low-quality when we install it — we use the same heavy-gauge posts and proper concrete setting as our other fences.

Do you offer financing?

Yes — we offer financing through Wisetack. Check your rate in 30 seconds with no credit impact. Ask us about it during your estimate.
