The Classic Choice for a Reason
Wood is the most customizable, character-rich, and cost-effective fence material out there. When it's built right — quality lumber, posts set deep in concrete, galvanized hardware — a wood fence will outlast just about everything else in your yard.
Custom to Your Property
Built to your exact dimensions, terrain, and layout. No pre-cut panel limitations, no awkward gaps where the panel didn't fit.
Full Privacy Options
Solid privacy walls with zero gaps between boards. Block sightlines, contain pets, and reclaim your backyard.
Style Flexibility
Pick your style, height, post caps, top rail, and finish. Match your home, your neighbor, or your HOA spec.
Stain or Weather It
Customize the color with a stain or sealer or let cedar weather naturally to that beautiful silver-gray.
Four Styles. One Local Crew.
Whether you want total privacy, classic curb appeal, or something in between — we build all four wood fence styles, on-site, board by board.
Privacy Fence
The most popular wood fence in Indianapolis.
Solid panels of vertical boards butted edge-to-edge for complete privacy. Standard heights are 6ft and 8ft. Perfect for backyards, pool areas, and any property where you want to keep the view in.
Total privacy • Pet containment • Pool enclosures • Blocking sightlines
Board-on-Board
Premium privacy with zero gaps — even as wood moves.
Overlapping vertical boards installed on alternating sides of the rails. As wood expands and contracts with the seasons, you never see daylight through it. Looks identical from both sides — your neighbors will love you for it.
Maximum privacy • Visible-from-both-sides yards • Longer lifespan • Premium curb appeal
Shadowbox
Privacy from a distance, airflow up close.
Alternating boards on opposite sides of the rail create a semi-private look that's identical from both sides. Air moves through the yard, the fence dries fast after rain, and stays cooler in summer.
HOA-approved aesthetics • Neighbors who want the "good side" • Properties where airflow matters
Picket Fence
Classic American curb appeal.
Spaced vertical pickets at 3ft or 4ft heights. Defines your yard without blocking it. Charming, traditional, and a great way to dress up a front yard or contain a small dog.
Front yards • Decorative borders • Low-profile pet containment • Historic homes
CEDAR VS PRESSURE-TREATED
Both look great. Both last for decades when installed right. Here's how to pick the right one for your project.
Western Red Cedar
The premium choice. Naturally resistant to rot, insects, and weather — no chemical treatment needed. Beautiful warm reddish-brown that weathers to silver-gray over time (or stain it to lock in the color). Slightly more upfront, but it pays you back with a longer life and a richer look.
-
20–25+ year lifespan with basic maintenance
-
Naturally rot and insect resistant
-
Stains beautifully or weathers naturally
-
The best look on the market for wood fencing
Pressure-Treated Pine
The workhorse. Affordable, durable, and treated to resist rot and termites. Takes stain or paint well. The most budget-friendly way to get a quality wood fence that'll stand strong for 15–20 years.
-
15–20 year lifespan with maintenance
-
Chemically treated for ground contact
-
Takes stain, paint, or weathers gray
-
Best value for full-yard installs
WOOD FENCE FAQ
How long does a wood fence last?
Cedar fences typically last 20–25+ years with basic maintenance. Pressure-treated pine runs 15–20 years. The posts are usually what fails first — which is why we set ours deep in concrete using thicker pressure-treated lumber.
Should I stain or seal my new wood fence?
Let a new fence cure for 30–60 days, then apply a quality stain or sealer. It extends the life, locks in the color, and reduces cracking. Re-apply every 2–3 years. Cedar can also be left untreated to weather to silver-gray.
Shadowbox vs. board-on-board — what's the difference?
Shadowbox has boards on alternating sides of the rail with a small gap between each — looks identical from both sides, allows airflow, semi-private up close. Board-on-board has overlapping boards on alternating sides with zero visible gap — full privacy from both sides, looks identical from both sides, uses slightly more material.
Will my wood fence warp or crack?
All wood moves with the weather — that's why we build with quality lumber, use galvanized fasteners that don't react with the wood, and design our rails to accommodate natural expansion. Some minor surface checking (small cracks in the grain) is normal and doesn't affect performance. A quality stain or sealer reduces movement and extends the life.
Do I need a permit for a wood fence in Indianapolis?
It depends on the city, height, and your HOA. Many Indianapolis-area cities allow 6ft backyard fences without a permit, but front yards and taller fences usually require one. We'll walk you through what's required at your specific address during the estimate.
Can you match my neighbor's existing fence?
In most cases, yes. Bring us a photo or description and we'll quote a match. The only catch: wood ages differently, so a brand-new fence won't match a weathered one perfectly until it ages in over a season or two.
Do you remove the old fence?
Yes — we handle full demo and haul-away. It's a separate line item on your quote so you can see the exact cost.
How deep do you set the posts?
At least 30" deep, with the post sitting on a gravel base and fully encased in concrete. Indiana's frost line runs around 32", and frost heave is a real problem with shallow posts — it's why a lot of cheap fences lean within a few years.
Cedar or pressure-treated — which is the better deal?
For a long-term home you plan to stay in, cedar usually pays for itself with the extra lifespan and look. For a rental property, large perimeter run, or budget-driven install, pressure-treated pine is hard to beat. We'll help you run the math on your specific project during the free estimate.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — we offer financing through Wisetack. Check your rate in 30 seconds with no credit impact. Ask us about it during your estimate.
